And then she says 'Who's doing all that bumpety-bump noise?' It's all noise backing up horrible singing as far as she's concerned. She's not a show-biz mother. I like playing the stuff where I don´t know what I´m gonna play. Like the end of Fake Plastic Trees or the end of Paranoid Android - stuff where I can do anything and no one notices or cares. We used to go into the IRC rooms and pretend to be us. But at the end of the session, we would say 'I confess, my name is Steve and I am from Ottawa, I'm just sitting here with all my Radiohead books'. Then someone would come in the room and pretend to be Colin, even though Colin was downstairs playing bass. It got very twisted.	Andavamo nel IRC e dicevamo che eravamo noi stessi. My style is so tightly tied in with our songs that I don't think you could even ask me to quit Radiohead and play guitar for another band. I don't think I could do it. It would probably reveal me to be the bluffer that I believe I am. That's how it feels. I wouldn't have the confidence to do anything but this. I don't think I've got any special talent. Thom's weird, and sometimes he lacks confidence about music, and I come at song writing from a completely different angle, which he enjoys, I think. He doesn't like to learn too much. He admires people like Elvis Costello whose knowledge is fairly limited but who write amazing song. But I sort of want to learn music. I think about music in a different way from him, so he likes doing stuff with me because I kind of will do the opposite of what he is doing, and I think that can be helpful. Thom è strano e a volte manca di fiducia nei riguardi della musica, ed io arrivo nel componimento da un'angolazione completamente differente, il che gli fa piacere, penso. Sometimes we have written songs while touring and played them while touring, and for whatever reason, the idea of going and recording them when they are however many years old, it is a bit weird. You have to wait until the song means something and you are obsessed about it.	A volte abbiamo scritto canzoni mentre eravamo in tour e le abbiamo suonate in tour, e per qualche ragione, l'idea di andarle a registrare quando sono diventate in un certo senso vecchie, è un pò strana. When someone in the band behaved like an asshole, one of the others always said: "The Karma Police is gonna get you". I suppose it's all rubbish that your destiny depends on your deeds in a previous life, but you have to trust on something.	Quando qualcuno della band si comporta da stronzo, uno di noi dice sempre che: "La polizia del karma ti prenderà". Credo che siano tutte stupidaggini che il tuo destino dipenda dalle tue azioni di una vita precedente, ma tu devi credere in qualcosa.
You've got to carry on trying things that you get scared of doing. As you get older, especially when you're in relatively successful band, there is a temptation to start doing things really really safe.	Devi continuare a provare le cose che hai paura di fare. Vocals are the most important thing on a song - the music can be shite but be redeemed by a great vocal take, but Thom doesn't see it like that...I think Thom at times has a hang-up about his voice. And the fucker can sing anything - he can reduce you to tears. We've discovered an interesting parallel relationship: the less time you spend on the road, the more sane you are. So we are not doing the traditional album, tour, album, tour, album, tour anymore. We're going to tour when we want to, regardless of whether we've got a record out. What we're going to do is a month here and there, rather than the huge rock & roll circus that we did for OK Computer.	Abbiamo scoperto un'interessante parallela relazione: meno tempo trascorriamo in tour, più sani siamo. Così non faremo più il tradizionale album, tour, album, tour. One day, I'm convinced we're going to be on the internet and we'll find an option to download an album we haven't even started recording yet. Radiohead fans are very thorough. My advice is that if you're in a band and you feel is good, stick with it and work at it, because basically what we've done is kept a school band together for years with nothing happening - until recently. I believe that we are the toughest judges of our work, and therefore, as long as we feel that we can give reasons for the things that we do, we will feel that we are doing something worthwhile. There's nothing more boring than a rock'n'roll star. Someone who has been on the road for 10 years, expecting attention whenever he goes, drinking himself stupid, who is obnoxious, inchoerent, uncreative and has a massive ego. There's nothing more pointless.	Non c'è niente di più noioso di una rock'n'roll star. Una persona che è in giro da 10 anni, che aspetta attenzioni ovunque egli vada, comportandosi da stupido, che è odioso, incoerente, privo d'idee e con un grande ego. Non c'è niente di più insensato.
I'm not negative. In fact, if I was negative about strangers in the street then I think I'd go mad, definitely!	Non sono una persona negativa. Infatti, se lo fossi credo con gli sconosciuti, impazzirei, definitivamente!
People sometimes say we take things too seriously, but it's the only way you'll get anywhere. We're not going to sit around and wait and just be happy if something turns up. We are ambitious. Most of the lyrics are taken from things I saw on television or from conversations I overhear on buses, that was far more interesting and personal to me than trying to mine my own experiences. I think that is one of the reasons people get into electronic music. It takes some of the emphasis off personalities and linear thinking. But there is a side of me that enjoys being at a microphone, so we are trying to find a midpoint between the worlds of rock and electronica.	Molti dei testi derivano da cose che ho visto in televisione o da conversazioni che ho origliato sui buses, il che era molto più interessante e personale per me che cercare di riportare le mie proprie esperienze. Penso che sia una delle ragioni che fa avvicinare le persone alla musica elettronica. Porta via un pò di enfasis dalla personalità e dal modo di pensare lineare. Ma c'è un lato di me che si diverte al microfono, così stiamo cercando una via di mezzo tra il mondo del rock e l'elettronica.
